Job Description:

Euroforest Ireland is seeking a skilled and dedicated Forest Road Specialist to oversee the planning, design, and construction of forest roads. The Forest Road Specialist will play a vital role in our forestry operations, ensuring the safe and efficient access to forest stands while minimizing environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Road Planning and Design: Develop Road layout plans in collaboration with forestry professionals and landowners, considering factors such as topography, soil conditions, and ecological sensitivities.

Permitting and Regulatory Compliance: Obtain necessary permits and approvals for road construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations and best practices.

Construction Oversight: Supervise road construction activities, including earthwork, drainage installation, and surfacing, to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.

Environmental Mitigation: Implement erosion control measures, stream crossings, and other environmental safeguards to minimize the impact of road construction on water quality, wildlife habitat, and sensitive ecosystems.

Budget and Schedule Management: Prepare project budgets and timelines, track expenses, and monitor progress to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budgetary constraints.

Stakeholder Communication: Maintain regular communication with landowners, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to coordinate activities, address concerns, and ensure alignment with project objectives.

Safety Leadership: Promote a culture of safety on construction sites, implementing safety protocols and training programs to minimize risks to personnel, equipment, and the environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in forestry, civil engineering, or related field.

Proven experience in forest road planning, design, and construction, preferably in a forestry or natural resources management context.

Strong technical knowledge of road engineering principles, including grading, drainage, and surfacing techniques.

Familiarity with environmental regulations and best practices related to road construction in forested landscapes.

Proficiency in project management software and tools for budgeting, scheduling, and documentation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and resolve conflicts diplomatically.

Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and supervise contractors to achieve project goals safely and efficiently.

Valid full driver's licence and willingness to travel to various forest sites as required.
